FEASTING ON LEG - PIECE: PEREGRINE FALCON (Falco peregrinus)
The Living Missile - the Peregrine is an adaptable falcon that can be found in almost any habitat. A Peregrine Falcon can dive up to 200 miles (323 kilometers) an hour to capture prey in flight, striking in mid-air with its outstretched talons, or claws. Peregrines usually hunt with either a swift chase or a fast dive. Pigeons are among their favorite meals.
It was a chilly winter afternoon in the salt-bed of Sambhar Lake in outskirts of Jaipur, India where during a birding trip we saw a Peregrine’s hunt attempt & within seconds the kill was successful. In this portrait, we can witness the Peregrine feasting on its favorite meal Yellow-footed Pigeon kill showcasing utmost stunningly bold-look with undaunted courage in raw nature; I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect pose. The result was a strikingly original portrait of one of the most photographed falcon species.
