The celebration of "Los Negros" of La Joya is a tradition of Maroon origin that mixes the syncretism of Catholic culture with Afro-Antillean religions. "Los Negros" are the protectors of the community "El Peje", they monitor the behavior of children and young people throughout the year. on Holy Friday from early in the morning the group prepares and organizes and at nine o'clock, after the bell rings of the church, the "Negros" dedicate to walking house to house and frightening children and young people who remind them of their obligations, which include respect for the elderly, to study and help their families with the "threat" of appearing again if they do not comply.
