In the game of chess, the pawns are the most vulnerable pieces, similar to us, God’s people. The King is the strongest, most powerful piece, the king is our lord Jesus Christ. The black and white squares on the chessboard represents this earthly life; the choices between wrong and right, evil and good. And the bible is the guide through life. “If anyone would come after me” God’s people must navigate through life, having to face constant choices between good and evil as they move ahead. “Let him deny himself” God’s people must give up their own selfish moves they wish to make. “and take up his cross daily and follow me” Everybody, God’s people must read the bible to learn his teachings. The bible is a guide to help them through the good and evil of life. Until they can truly be like the lord and follow the King in all his light and glory.
