A few kilometers from Dhaka, the overcrowded capital of Bangladesh, is the Dumping area, a striking sight of mounds of garbage and excrement. This area is fenced and trespassers are liable for prosecution, except those with special permission to access the area. Here the poor people of all ages, particularly women and young children, spend their day trying to make ends meet by collecting small pieces of plastic material and anything that can be recycled. They scavenge the area and collect their fnd in huge bags, which they later sell per kilo in the nearby village for recycling purposes. The air is so toxic that it seems unbreathable and the soil is leachate exuding extremely dangerous toxic substances to the body. The main entrance to this area is ironically set through a fower garden. The horizon beckons focks of birds whose fight seemingly anticipate the unsettling sight of the scavengers. Their trade for survival is the quest for life.
