This photograph was taken in June 2025 in Altyn Arashan, Kyrgyzstan, during a journey around the beautiful Issyk-Kul. My friend and I spent the night in a small tourist camp in the valley, run by local families. Some worked in the camp, while others were horse breeders who helped with transport and daily work in the mountains.
I met these two brothers after they had finished helping their father with the horses. When their work was done, they climbed onto a horse and began riding toward their mother, who was working nearby in a small canteen for travelers — a simple yurt where meals were prepared for visitors.
I took this photograph as they were riding to meet her for lunch.
Later I asked their father if they were not too young to ride a horse. He smiled and told me that in this region children start sitting on horses from the age of three. But only the older brother is allowed to control the horse.
In this moment, their bond becomes visible. The older brother sits in the saddle with calm confidence, holding the reins firmly. Despite his young age, there is already a sense of responsibility in the way he rides — as if he already understands what it means to guide and protect.
Beside him, the younger brother sits more cautiously, yet without fear. He is still too small to control the horse — his legs cannot even reach the stirrups. But he sits with quiet trust, knowing his older brother is there.
In this simple scene, two powerful feelings exist side by side: the responsibility of the older brother, and the complete trust of the younger one.
