Milan Cathedral. A representative of Flamboyant Gothic (French Gothic combined with Lombard influences). Looking upwards, one can observe the typology of the columns and their capitals. The ribbed vaults, typical of Gothic or Neo-Gothic architecture, rest upon these. Natural light, filtering through the stained-glass windows depicting biblical scenes, merges with the artificial light from spotlights. This creates the characteristic space of Gothic architecture: a sense of shadow. Some areas are brighter due to their larger size, as the cathedral is clad in white Candola marble. Construction began in 1386, and the main façade was completed in 1813.
