A New Mexico ridge-nosed rattlesnake (Crotalus willardi obscurus), receiving assistance after a quick surgic procedure. During the surgery a couple of microchips were inserted to gather information in order to learn more about this peculiar and probably endangered species. Shot during the first phase of \\\"Project Obscurus\\\" in Chihuahua, Mexico, during August of 2024.

“Project Obscurus” si a groundbreaking effort that includes establishing a captive breeding program to repopulate the threatened rattlesnake in its US range. This small, shy, mountain-dwelling species plays a vital role in the ecosystem as both predator and prey.
