Wolf spiders of the genus Hippasa have eight eyes arranged in three rows. The bottom row consists of four small eyes, the middle row has two large eyes, and the top row has two medium-sized eyes. Wolf spiders are unique in the way they carry their eggs. The egg sac is a round, silken ball attached to spinnerets at the end of the abdomen, allowing the spider to carry them. It places the eggs on the abdomen in an elevated position to prevent the egg case from dragging along the ground. If it feels threatened, it places the sac down in the middle to protect it.
