The Great Apes
Orangutans, one of our closest living relatives, share about 97% of their DNA with humans, placing them among the great apes. This close genetic connection emphasizes the need to protect their habitats and prevent their extinction.
Sadly, orangutans are critically endangered, facing rapid population decline due to habitat loss, illegal hunting, and the pet trade. This crisis underscores the urgent need for intensified conservation efforts.
This photograph was taken during my recent visit to Tanjung Puting National Park.
