Black and White Mobile Shot Category Reference
Black and white photography is an image in which expressiveness is achieved exclusively through tone and the interplay of light and shadow. The absence of color reveals the optical structure of the frame: the plasticity of form, texture, rhythm, and the interplay of light and air. It is the tonal scale—from deep black to pure white, encompassing the full spectrum of intermediate grays—that becomes the primary tool for shaping the image.
This category accepts works captured on mobile devices. There are no genre restrictions: portrait, street photography, landscape, still life, abstraction, macro. The key requirement is a deliberate black-and-white approach, where the absence of color enhances rather than substitutes the content. Converting a color original to monochrome using graphic editing software is permitted.
Accepted:
- Photographs taken on a mobile device and presented in black and white
Not Accepted:
- Images with retained color, including any type of toning (sepia, cyanotype, color monochromes)
- Photographs not taken on a mobile device
